26-03-2015 SCA 13.45 uur The days are long on Team SCA right now. The crew does not get a huge amount of sleep because of all the things that needs to be fixed. Everyone is pretty tired which is understandable. The wipe out cost us in total, by the time we fixed everything, about 100 to 110 miles which is quite a big loss. We were 20 miles behind the current leader and in a very good position. Now it´s all about catch and gain. Fortunately we are in a situation where the leaders are likely to slow down. We are back up and running but missing the key sail. We hope it will not be too much of an issue since the wind strength, when it does get up, is likely to be so strong we wouldn´t use the FRO anyway. According to our navigator Libby it may not be too painful. Our strategy is to make sure we are not making any mistakes, we can´t afford it now and we have to be pretty good at picking our shifts and make the right sail choices. There are many miles to go. It´s likely we will see stronger breeze the next few days on the way to Cape Horn and given what happened already in the breezier conditions I think that everyone will be going slower then we expect since they just want to get to Cape Horn in one piece. For the moment we are in lighter breeze. The sailing conditions have been spectacular and the scenery amazing with all the ingredients you can expect from the Southern Ocean. As I write it´s a pitch dark evening. The Team has just managed to put back the now fixed battens in the main. Now we need to try to get people well rested before the next 24-36 hours before we hit the stronger breeze again. We have a few challenging days ahead and we know it´s going to be cold, wet, tiring and long.
