Enkele geweldige shots van vanmorgen! Als de vloot East Cape passeerd in de restwind gegenereerd door cycloon Pam.

Azzam skipper Ian Walker sent this update between stints at the wheel:
 "We are now hard reaching in 25 to 30 knots and it is very wet on deck. The fleet is spread out north to south and we are alongside Dongfeng."

The sailing conditions are spectacular. The waves are big. We have 12 hours of fast reaching behind us.
Some of the girls found their sea legs quite quickly, others are still struggling.
The gentle conditions that we had at the start feels very far away.To really get a good idea how it's to sail the boat I asked Abby to describe it, she just finished a late lunch and was prepared for her next watch."It is bumpy.
It's wet and it's wild. It's like being on a rodeo horse or on a rollercoaster, it's just intense.""It requires 100% concentration, not only helming the boat but when you move around.
The movement is so violent. There are no wave patterns at the moment, the waves are quite short and close together making the ride uncomfortable. You just have to be careful, it's not only looking after yourself, but anybody who is out there. We are sailing at a really fast angle in the right direction direction, heading south, heading east."


Dongfeng 

Conditions onboard Dongfeng are clearly heinous right now, tough rough reaching in up to 30 knots of wind, big water over deck, some of the crew seasick - like most of us would be!

Abu Dhabi 12.00 uur

Strong winds and big seas – the remnants of severe tropical cyclone Pam that delayed the start of Leg 5 – have been making life difficult above and below deck for the ADOR crew as Azzam blasts through the South Pacific at speeds over 20 knots.
 As the on-watch sailors get deluged with wave after foaming wave on deck, down below in their bunks the off-watch crew is kept from sleep by the unrelenting cacophony of noise from all around them.

Brunel

Day: 2 - Position: 1st - Distance to Itajai 6141 Nm

 We are leading the pack with an average boat speed of 21 knots over the last 12 hours. With 30 knots of breeze in 5 metre high waves the conditions are nasty. The next 24 hours will be about finding the fastest route to Cape Horn and the start of the ice limit that is stopping them from sailing further south.
